war of the toads
The Australian army as been called upon to stop the march of the Cane toads from the western part of Australia. Huh?
Well.. the cane toads are venomous toads which can kill animals as big as the crocodile within minutes. And believe it or not, they are not native to the continent with the highest number of poisonous creatures in the world. They were imported from Hawaii to stop the growth of the Cane Beetles which were plaguing the country in the 1930s.
Never mess with Nature eh? Finally Australia made some news on the BBC though.
Past few days I have been watching the World at War series made by BBC some time ago. It shows shocking footage from the World War II. I am glad I wasn't alive during that time. But it seems that we are going towards the same age with the international community getting uneasy again. I hope we stop fighting soon.
I had a long conversation about wars with Kate and Alison today. I was arguing that wars, as terrible as they are, will never be able to stop and aiming for an ideal world is unfortunately futile. Cynical as it seems, power is what people want, and through wars will we able to invent things which change the world. Necessity is the mother of invention they say.
The two girls didn't agree.
