a rebel defeated

what goes on does not affect me
me, the one who is separated
me, the one who is not a part
detached from routine happenings
me a rebel
a rebel who is lost
a rebel once inspired
a rebel now defeated

Apple of the eye

I did it. I bought an apple MacBook. I feel totally icool. It is going to be delivered in a few days and I am already dying out of enthusiasm. It cost me a lot of money, more than I have, but then you live only once don't you?

Going legal

I have decided to buy a laptop. The problem with that is buying the software. I would never have problems if I didn't want to go legit. The thing is, I want to buy a Mac and hence will have to buy programs which go on with it. But since I have been using windows till now, I want to have windows running on it too. Apparently you can do that now. But you need programs for both.

How does a student afford this? It's just not possible to buy programs for both the systems. Heck it's not possible to buy them for one system. A pack of office costs a hundred pounds. Some other software which I cannot live without will cost another 100 more, and so on. In the end, the software will end up costing as much as the laptop itself. I could just as easily go and buy illegal software and work with them happily. But if you want to buy legal ones you have to pay out of your nose. How do they expect students to do this? I am going to buy an apple, and I guess I will use some illegal software with it.

Pictures are up

I've managed to put up a few selected pictures from the party from our house. As I said last time, it was pretty crazy a party. You will see just why. But the house has recovered pretty well right now. Dwight will be staying with us for a couple of months when Roisin is going to be traveling through Niger for some field campaigns. Malaria and typhoid await her and hopefully some interesting scientific results too.

I spoke to Bashar today. He wasn't doing too well. He is in Lebanon at the moment and well, things are not going too well right now. Israel has declared war on Lebanon and is attacking them as I write this. It's a pity that countries have to resort to war to solve crisis. I understand that war is how the best luxuries which we enjoy have evolved, but I am sure there must be a better way.

I hope things change soon.

happenings

To start off, the Bombay blasts...

I was in Bombay the last time the blasts took place. Luckily I am alive and so are all my friends, but many were not lucky. That was way back in 2003 when I had written a small piece about it. And it has happened again. The difference is that I am not in Bombay. Luckily all my friends and family are ok, but it does make your blood boil. Who did it? why? These are questions still unanswered. There are people feeling oppressed and this is how they show their dissent. Not very clever since the large scale righteous murderers like Bush and Blair only get more supporters. Non-violence is still the best way to fight, use politics to defeat politics. But killing more innocent people when you have gone through the same pain does not make sense to me.

I haven't written for a long time and my life has been going on pretty smoothly. I was far away from any life threatening situations living happily in my new home. I feel guilty. But not enough to enjoy my life here.

We had a house warming party last weekend which turned out to be a total success. It was one of the biggest parties I have been to with more than 60 people turning out. Cleaning the next day was difficult. But if you are going to celebrate, celebrate big eh? Pictures are again in the waiting line. Will put them up sometime soon.

new house

We have moved into the new house and I love it. The first two days have been mostly working in the house to make I more homely and trust me, it takes a lot of work. We have been shopping for things to make the house look pretty, and also buying lots of things which were missing in the house. Now we have a TV, a table to put it on, enough light in the rooms, enough storage space. All we need is a foosball table and another fridge and we will be all set.

I need to post up a few pictures of the new place and will do so in the next few days. The reason for not doing so is that I have managed to break my camera and need to get it repaired.
