celebration of the lizard

Not to touch the earth
Not to see the sun
Nothing left to do, but
Run, run, run
Lets run
Lets run
House upon the hill
Moon is lying still
Shadows of the trees
Witnessing the wild breeze
Cmon baby run with me
Lets run
Run with me
Run with me
Run with me
Lets run
The mansion is warm, at the top of the hill
Rich are the rooms and the comforts there
Red are the arms of luxuriant chairs
And you wont know a thing till you get inside
Dead presidents corpse in the drivers car
The engine runs on glue and tar
Come on along, not goin very far
To the east to meet the czar
Run with me
Run with me
Run with me
Lets run
Whoa!
Some outlaws lived by the side of a lake
The ministers daughters in love with the snake
Who lives in a well by the side of the road
Wake up, girl, were almost home
Ya, cmon!
We should see the gates by mornin
We should be inside the evenin
Sun, sun, sun
Burn, burn, burn
Soon, soon, soon
Moon, moon, moon
I will get you
Soon!, soon!, soon!
I am the lizard king
I can do anything

huh?

Dwight's back. Even if its for a week, its good to have him here. Catching up is good fun sometimes. He got us some really cool gifts too, so it is definitely good to have him back. So, I got a new T-shirt (from Jamiaca) and a big pack of cigs. I shall survive till christmas for sure. Then I should try and quit.

Besides that what happened today. John treated us for a fantastic dinner at the Thai Edge. Thai food is pretty similar to Indian food in terms of spices and hence I totally love it. That was our christmas meal. We had some crackers too to turn on the festive spirit. I got a silly christmas hat and a weird looking animal, which we could not decide on. It was a monkey/sheep/dog thingy. I am not going to save that.

Then I went back to the lab for a while and finally am home. I wanna sleep, am pretty starved of it. Not that sleeping is what I really wanna do. But then you can't always get what you want. Tomorrow is another day.

weekend

What did I do?

Friday:
Woke up at 6:30
Boring meeting
Good food
Got pissed

Saturday
Slept
Slept some more
Worked a little
sobered up
good food
got pissed

Sunday
Slept
Slept some more
Went to the city
Didn't buy anything
good food (yet again)
Watch 'the office' till 3 at night

Monday
Woke up at 7
wished i was in bed
Still wishing I was in bed

Moral: when you are pissed, all food tastes good

pictures

I know that it's been a long time coming, but here are the pictures finally. It was a crazy trip with lots of unusual and uncanny experiences. But as the pictures will prove, it was really pretty and somehow that makes up for everything. One thing is for sure, being an atmospheric chemist is hard work, but someone's gotta do it.

thoughts

I have been back from Cape Verde for a week now and finally I have enough time to get around telling you about all the fun I had. (lucky you!) But before I get around to figuring out how to show you the millions of pictures which I took during my three weeks there, there are more important things to talk about.

Firstly, for those of you who knew Rani the dog, she has been buried at the farmhouse in Pune. Mom and dad did this personally and when I get back to India, on the 28th of December, you are more than welcome to join me to the farmhouse. She was a real friend.

Our trip to India is fixed. We are leaving on the 27th from UK and will be reaching India on the 28th during the day. I hope the trip is going to be as much fun as I am dreaming right now. We are planning to go to Goa and sit by the beach for a few days before going down south to Kerela and having a good time down there. Kerela is a part of the country I have never been to and am looking forward to it myself. Goa, that's the place I want to settle down finally. When I am 60 and if I am alive, I might buy myself a small shack there and sell weed to make some money. But otherwise prawns and beer will have to do.

Getting back to the real world where you get arrested if you do try to sell weed, there are so many things that have been happening since I had gone to Cape Verde. First of all, the war in Iraq is still going on. One would have thought that after Vietnam and Afghanistan (not the US debacle, but the USSR one) would serve as a lesson to the leaders of the world. Apparently history lessons are not important if you want to be the president of a country. Shit happens, but shit happens again and again. The past month has seen some of the bloodiest times in Iraqi history. Who is to blame? The entire country is on the brink of civil war. Is this really better than the situation under Saddam? Which is the lesser of two evils? And who are we to judge? People like to believe that they are going to be saviours of the world. That explains that some of the biggest hits in Hollywood have been films showing a bunch of Americans saving the world. But in real life, does it work that way too? Since the US was losing the war in Iraq and things were getting out of hand, bush played his last card. Saddam is to be hanged. What is this doesn't work either? Please read this blog by riverbend if you have some time.
